Athlete Strong is a certified 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Established in 2016, our mission is to inspire and strengthen our youth and communities through the influential power of athletes. We host, create and support community service projects throughout the Salt Lake Valley.
Our second annual Turkey Bowl continues the tradition of last year’s event success. The success and proceeds from our annual Turkey bowl event will fund our annual Winter Week of Service we perform during the Holiday Season.
Our annual Winter Week of service consists of three events that we have become a tradition for us as they focus on aiding three different areas in our community; Our Future Generations, Our less fortunate, and Our homeless.
The first event was created by our founder Steven Sylvester while he was working with the Steelers in Pittsburg and found so much success he wanted to replicate that effect within his Utah community. Every year, thousands of children across the country go without presents during the holidays, there are families where the parents are working so much to make ends meet that they aren’t always able to be as present as they would like to be.
Our second annual event “Feed the Homeless” runs in partnership with Frida Bistro and Burrito project SLC to provide a hearty holiday meal to the Homeless of Salt Lake City. Concurrently we host “Project Warm” where we distribute warm clothes and socks that we have collected throughout the Fall from the community.
Lastly, we partner with Shriners Hospital for their holiday “Winter Fest” event. Athlete Strong buys toys and brings volunteer Athletes to pass out donated toys to Shriners patients. Shriner’s struggles to fulfill their patients with adequate therapy tools, toys, and accommodations; our donations help them get through the first half of the calendar year. We have grown to have an amazing partnership with Shriners hospital that we make our annual event grand.
This year we are excited to add one more event to the week. Athlete Strong will host a “Holiday Feast”, where we partner with multiple organizations across the valley to provide a holiday dinner to select families that wouldn’t have one otherwise. This event will provide an opportunity for families and athletes in the community to connect with one another and bring out the holiday spirit in everyone.
